Got questions about hosting high school exchange students? Interested in seeing a few student applications? If you are in the Portland, Oregon, area, you are in luck! Come visit me Saturday, May 17th, 2014 at the annual Maifest German cultural fair at Oaks Park.  There will be food, musical performances, dance groups, arts and crafts vendors, and great raffle prizes.  This year’s festival will honor both German and French cultures; the Alliance Francaise will participate with a booth and will display an exhibit about the 50th Anniversary of the Franco – Allemand Friendship , sponsored by the German Consulate in San Francisco. This year’s Maifest program includes, among others:

  • Cosmic Rose: Portland Band – Positive and inspiring, reggae-influenced, acoustic groove and space-funk music with uplifting lyrics and melodies. They’ll make you dance!
  • The Roseburg German Band – A 14-member group dedicated to playing German music and making people happy.  A typical performance will include waltzes, polkas, Scottish tunes, and marches.  Much of the music comes directly from Germany.

Come enjoy what should be a wonderfully entertaining as well as educational event at Portland’s famous Oaks Park.  And make sure to find the EF High School Exchange Year table so you can talk to me about educational and cultural exchange.  Some of my students should be there so you can meet real live exchange students!
